Where can I find or have made a small frosted glass figurine of a tree trunk?
It might sound odd, but its part of a gift for someone that I would like engraved as well. I've looked all over and can not find someone who makes something like it and I am not aware of anyone who would take orders to make something like that. Please help!
There are several possibilities and you will have to connect with matching glass artists to make it happen. Three ways Involve making a mold, usually starting with a clay model, covering it with latex mold or other material in order to make wax copies like this http://www.mikegigi.com/castgobl.htm # 2007-06-04 (scroll down a couple of screens to see a tree trunk.) and then using them high temp to make molds and then do 1. Kiln casting - which Involves cold from melting glass in a container in a kiln so it drains into the mold 2. Pate d'Verre - which Involves making a paste of finely ground glass and packing the mold and heating to fusing, leaving a copy of the mold that is frosty opaque Because of the tiny air bubbles trapped in the glass. 3. Molten casting - Glass is melted in a furnace and poured from a ladle into the heated mold. The other method would be to 4. build an object that looked like a tree trunk by working at a torch and Gradually add glass to sculpt the shape. You might be able to make a connection by looking at local craft centers or community colleges and guilds or asking for people doing any of the above and if no good response, as about people doing anything with glass - kiln fusing and beadmaking come to mind and see if they know someone else.
